Sunset pic at Donner's Bay Resort, your year round accommodations in Iron County on the Turtle Flambeau FlowageThe Turtle Flambeau Flowage is a 18,900 acre impoundment created in 1926. The Turtle Flambeau Dam harnesses the power of the Turtle and Flambeau rivers. It is the 4th largest inland body of water in the state. There are approximately 217 miles of shoreline (including islands) with 95% owned by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as of late 1990. There are over 150 islands on the Flowage, and the Flowage encompasses nine lakes, three rivers and several creeks.

The Flowage has been designated as a protected wilderness area and offers numerous opportunities for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and boating. The 26 mile trip on the north fork of the famous Flambeau River from the Flowage to the city of Park Falls traverses 23 rapids with plenty of whitewater thrills. The miles of undisturbed shoreline provide an outdoor experience that is unmatched in the region.

Although walleye is the dominate fishery in the Flowage, you'll also find musky, northern pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass, lake sturgeon and various panfish throughout the Flowage. Consult the Wisconsin fishing regulations for complete regulations and watch for special regulations posted at boat landings. There are 6 boat access sites in the Flowage.

Boaters should always exercise caution on the Flowage since there is an abundance of stumps, logs, floating drift wood and rock bars that make for exceptional fishing.

The Turtle Flambeau Scenic Waters Area encompasses a wide variety of wildlife habitats. Surrounding woodlands vary from steeply rolling hills to level terrain; there are grassy openings, small wild lakes and ponds as well as expansive wetlands.
